Poole

Poole is what happens when a working port and a Kensington postcode are forced to share a car park. One end of it launched landing craft at Normandy and still smells of diesel and fish; the other end sells sea views to people who bought the view and then complained about the boats. In between sits everyone actually living here, quietly getting on with it while the harbour does the thing it has done since the Vikings turned up uninvited, which is refuse to be tidied into a brochure.
