Ferndown

Ferndown is what happens when a garden centre achieves independence and builds a town around itself. The A31 does the heavy work of keeping it attached to somewhere more exciting, which residents treat as a feature. It changed its own name in the eighties because Hampreston sounded like a place things happened in, and forty years on nobody has been proved wrong.
