Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle is a ruin that got so famous it swallowed the village underneath it, which now exists mainly to sell fudge and tea to people photographing the thing that isn't there any more. William the Conqueror picked the spot for the view; Parliament blew the walls apart in the Civil War and left the stumps sitting on the hill like a broken jaw, and the National Trust has been charging admission to the wreckage ever since. Everything in the grey-stone street below is listed, protected, or looked at sternly by someone in a conservation office, so treat any plan involving windows as a hobby rather than a project. It is a beautiful place to live, provided you can afford it and never wanted to change anything.
