Luton

The town people pass through on purpose·Bedfordshire·East of England

Luton made its fortune on hats, then on Vauxhalls, and now lends its name to an airport that puts "London" in front of it. Most people who sneer at the place have only seen it through the window of the airport shuttle on the way somewhere sunnier, and they judge it with the confidence of someone who once used the toilets at a motorway services. The town is used to being the punchline. That seems fair for a place that celebrated the end of the First World War by burning down its own town hall.
