Harpenden

Harpenden is where London couples move once the second child arrives and the Thameslink timetable becomes a personality. It takes its standards so seriously that when the golf club moved to a new course, the members who preferred the old one stayed on the Common and founded another, and both are still going. A highwaywoman known as the Wicked Lady once robbed travellers on Nomansland Common at the edge of town. These days the residents hand their money over willingly, in sealed bids, to estate agents.
