Caddington

Made the bricks, then retired to a bungalow·Bedfordshire·East of England

Caddington made its living digging clay out of its own hill and baking it into bricks for other people's houses, then built itself out of post-war semis and bungalows, like a chef who goes home to a microwave meal. The village green and the medieval church are still holding up the word "village", while the postcode admits the place answers to Luton. People buy here to say they live in a Bedfordshire village, and they do, as long as nobody reads the envelope.
