Liphook

A coaching stop that never noticed the coaches left·Hampshire·South East England

Liphook has spent four hundred years as the place people stop on the way to somewhere else, first the coaches to Portsmouth, now half the surrounding villages driving in to use its station. Pepys rolled in at ten at night, convinced he'd got lost over Hindhead, and called the locals good, honest people, which is still the review the village would most like on the sign. Local tradition puts Nelson's last night in England here before Trafalgar, and a village can dine out on one night's sleep for a very long time. The A3 goes round it now, so the only people who turn up are the ones who meant to.
