Leytonstone

Epping Forest's front door, with a dual carriageway through the hall·Greater London·London

Leytonstone produced Alfred Hitchcock and has lined its tube station with mosaics of him ever since, in case anyone forgets the most famous thing that ever left. Locals spent years fighting the M11 link road through their own streets, lost, and now live alongside it, so nobody here needs telling how much a petition weighs against a dual carriageway. It is where people land when they wanted Walthamstow's coffee and Epping Forest at the end of the road, just without Walthamstow's asking prices. Estate agents have been calling it the next Walthamstow for years, and Leytonstone has been politely ignoring them the whole time.
