Olympic Park

A legacy that pays rent to a landlord·Greater London·London

Olympic Park is what happens when a country builds a neighbourhood for a fortnight of sport and then has to work out who's going to live in it once the athletes go home. The answer turned out to be young renters in brand-new flats, with a shopping centre next door doing most of the socialising for them. Over all of it looms the ArcelorMittal Orbit, officially Britain's largest piece of public art, though anyone who has watched people queue for its slide knows it's a helter-skelter with planning permission.
