Olympic Park's schools are good, and in the borough around it, good is the lowest grade on offer. The area has two state schools, and both turn up on the primary list and the secondary list. Primary maths results are strong. Secondary results are solid. A park built for a fortnight of world records now has schools that post steadier results.
Two mainstream state primaries are counted around here, and their Key Stage 2 maths results average about 107. Bobby Moore Academy and Harris Academy Chobham are the names on the list. In an area where flats, young adults and renters dominate, the primary intake is smaller than the population would suggest, though nobody chasing a place should read that as an easy ride.
The same two names make up the secondary picture. The area has two mainstream state secondaries, and their pupil-weighted Attainment 8 score is about 48. Because both schools take children at primary and secondary age, a family here can decide on a school once and not have to go through the whole process again at eleven.
Across Newham, Ofsted has graded 50 schools and rated every one good or better, with 22 of them outstanding. None is rated as requiring improvement and none is inadequate. Other schools in the borough have no published grade yet and are left out of that count.
Places are given out under Newham Council's published admissions rules, and living near Bobby Moore Academy or Harris Academy Chobham does not guarantee a child a place at either. Parents should read each school's admissions policy and ask how far from the gate last year's offers reached, because a flat can sit next to a school and still be outside its intake. When two schools take children of every age, the queue at the gate starts early and moves slowly.
Schools are the part of Olympic Park a parent can stop worrying about, at least until the admissions letter arrives. Few places this central can say the same.
