Hertford Heath
Hertford Heath is two old villages that grew into each other and then let a boarding school do all the talking. Mention it anywhere in the county and people assume you mean Haileybury, which is a lot of fame to borrow from a school whose blazer most of the village has never worn. Builders laying garages on Trinity Road in 1956 dug straight into an Iron Age grave, and the village has been parking on top of its history ever since. Hertford handles the errands from down the hill, which suits a heath that would rather look at fields than at a high street.
