Watton-at-Stone
Watton-at-Stone takes its name either from two lumps of puddingstone outside a pub that no longer serves anyone, or from a Roman road that now survives mainly as somebody's garden boundary, and the village has never felt the need to decide which. It has its own railway station, a fact the surrounding hamlets get reminded of more often than they would like. The bypass took the through traffic away, and most of the excuses for anything happening went with it. That is exactly what the buyers were paying for, and they will tell you so at length.
