Headcorn

Season ticket in one hand, wellies in the other·Kent·South East England

Half of Kent thinks Headcorn is a railway station with a village attached, because every village around it mentions the place only as somewhere to drive to for the London train. The village sits on the River Beult's floodplain, and nobody has ever told the river it's in the commuter belt. People have lived beside that water since someone lost a flint axe in the stream in the Stone Age, so the arrangement is hardly new. Buyers still look at the train timetable first and the floodplain second, which is exactly the wrong order.
