Biddenden

Cloth money, still refusing to fade in the wash·Kent·South East England

Biddenden got rich weaving Flemish broadcloth and has spent every century since making sure nothing looks newer than the money. The railway turned up, lost interest and left, so the place now runs on vineyards, cider and a second car, and nobody seems sorry. Its most famous residents are a pair of medieval conjoined twins who may never have existed, which in a village this committed to its own past still counts as putting down roots.
