Tenterden
Tenterden is still a paid-up member of the Cinque Ports, the old league of seafaring towns, even though the sea packed up and left centuries ago and nobody has had the heart to tell the paperwork. The broad High Street was built on medieval wool money and has been living off the interest ever since, with a steam railway that runs to a castle and back for no reason beyond the pleasure of it. In 1305 a banished Prince Edward stayed just outside town and wrote to his father to complain that he was bored stiff. People now pay good money for exactly what he was moaning about.
