Epping, Essex

A market town with a tube habit·Essex·East of England

Epping is where the Central line gives up, and plenty of people moved here precisely because it gives up. You get Zone 6 fares, a forest the City of London keeps tidy on your behalf, and a High Street that sold cattle until 1961 and has spent the decades since pretending it was always about the coffee. On Friday and Saturday nights the overnight trains turn back at Loughton, so London is close enough to commute to and just far enough to stop following you home.
