Clifton, Bedfordshire

A medieval hundred that settled for semis·Bedfordshire·East of England

Clifton gave its name to an entire medieval hundred, then let Shefford next door take the post town, which is about as far as Bedfordshire modesty goes. Boats once came right through the village on the River Ivel. These days the traffic is two cars per driveway, and half the street has swapped the commute for the spare bedroom. People who bought here wanted a village where very little happens, and they got one, though the cars on those driveways draw more late-night interest than anyone would like.
