Arlesey

The brickworks town that sold Bedfordshire its walls, then left·Bedfordshire·East of England

Arlesey spent generations digging itself up to make bricks for other people's towns, and the holes it left behind are now its best feature. The flooded chalk pits are called the Blue Lagoon and the Green Lagoon, which is a lot of Caribbean to hang on an old cement works in Bedfordshire. It lost its station for decades and then got it back, and the town has organised itself around that ever since. This is where people who were priced out of Hitchin buy a semi on the main line and then talk about the 7.04 the way other towns talk about the weather.
