Chadwell Heath

Too London for Essex, too Essex for London·Greater London·London

Chadwell Heath is split between two London boroughs, which means half the residents get to blame Redbridge and the other half get to blame Barking and Dagenham. The post town says Romford, the Elizabeth line says London, and buyers tend to say whichever one helped the asking price. West Ham trained here for decades and then left for Rush Green, just down the road, which is the most Chadwell Heath way of leaving anywhere. In the war a parachute mine came down by the station, tangled itself in the horse-chestnuts and decided not to go off, which is about as decisive as Chadwell Heath gets.
