Becontree

Becontree is what happened when London ran out of London and bought up a few square miles of Essex cabbage fields to build homes fit for heroes. The first tenants picked rhubarb off the abandoned market gardens, which remains the most generous welcome any landlord round here has offered. The planners called the whole thing a cottage estate, and a century of estate agents has been grateful for the head start.
