Gants Hill

A suburb that orbits its own roundabout·Greater London·London

Gants Hill is a roundabout that grew a suburb, and the five roads meeting in the middle have never agreed who goes first. Transport for London spent more than a year redoing the crossings and subways, and the Mayor came out to unveil a plaque for it, an honour most places save for a dead poet. The nightclub on Cranbrook Road made it onto reality television, so Valentines Park has to do the work of making this somewhere people choose on purpose. You buy here for the Central line and the park, and most journeys still start with a lap of the roundabout.
