Catford
Nobody knows whether Catford was named after cattle crossing the Ravensbourne or wild cats doing the same, and one lunchtime on the South Circular gyratory cures you of caring. It's the administrative centre of the whole borough, and the middle of that centre is a small retail park stuck on an island inside a one-way system, so the planners had either a sense of humour or no sense of direction. Two stations, two train companies, two different ends of London, plus a Tube extension that has been due "in a later phase" for so long it now counts as local heritage. The people who buy here have stopped waiting for the Bakerloo line and started timing the Thameslink, which is the most grown-up decision in south-east London.
