Lee, London
Lee is where buyers end up after viewing Blackheath and then viewing the Blackheath prices, and Lee has the good grace not to bring it up. It straddles Lewisham and Greenwich without fully committing to either, and its crossroads once ran two pubs both called the Tiger's Head, the Old one having first stood where the New one is now, which tells you how long the place has been making it up as it goes. In 1837 Robert Cocking fell out of the sky here in the first fatal parachute accident, and Lee has kept its feet firmly on the ground ever since.
