Buckingham
Buckingham gave its name to a county and a palace, then watched the county run itself from Aylesbury and the palace go to London. In 1725 a fire burned through the middle of town, and the Georgian streets built afterwards are now the main reason people pay to live here, which makes that fire the best thing that ever happened to the local estate agents. The trains left in 1964 and the new railway line is stopping at Winslow instead. So Buckingham holds its market twice a week, as it has since Queen Mary gave it a charter, and drives everywhere else.
