Yelverton, Devon

Where Dartmoor is a view, not a lifestyle·Devon·South West England

Yelverton is a roundabout with a village attached, and the roundabout is the interesting part, because it used to be an airfield and the tarmac never quite forgot. The place sits on the edge of Dartmoor doing an impression of somewhere that retired early and did well out of it: garages that hold two cars, ponies that hold up the traffic, and a bus to Plymouth that most residents have never personally witnessed. Nobody moves here for the nightlife. They move here for the bit where the road goes over the cattle grid and the phone gives up, which is either the best thing about it or a two-winter mistake, depending entirely on who you are.
