Yealmpton
Yealmpton is a village on the road to somewhere better, which locals will tell you is unfair while pointing out how quickly you can get to Plymouth. The Yealm gave the place its name and then spent the next thousand years doing very little else. What it has instead is lanes, deer parks, a hillfort nobody visits, and the particular calm of a village that stopped trying to grow around the time the last barrow was dug. Come for the quiet, and be honest with yourself about whether you can take it in February.
