West Drayton

Heathrow's back garden, still pretending to be a village·Greater London·London

West Drayton is a Tudor village that woke up one morning to find Heathrow had moved in next door, and Heathrow has no plans to turn the music down. The Green still has its listed houses and the old gatehouse wall that William Paget put up after building his manor over the villagers' graves, which makes him West Drayton's first property developer and explains a lot. The rest of the town is post-war semis, the M4 and an Elizabeth line station, laid out so you can get to Paddington or a departure lounge with almost no effort. People who moved here for the airport jobs call that convenience, and people who moved here for the village green learn to finish their sentences between flights.
