Dry ground, dry money, wet fields·Somerset·South West England

An island of gilets in a sea of ditches. Alfred the Great baptised a Viking here and then presumably went somewhere with better parking, and the village has been quietly congratulating itself ever since. It sits on the only dry ground for miles, which is either an accident of geology or the smuggest piece of town planning in Somerset. Everyone here has a wet field view and dry feet, and knows exactly how much both are worth.
