Virginia Water

Electric gates with a village attached·Surrey·South East England

Virginia Water is a village the way a Bentley is a car: technically true, and missing the point entirely. The money lives behind high walls and electric gates on the Wentworth Estate, which is so good at keeping people in and everyone else out that it once held a former dictator under house arrest, and the neighbours barely noticed a change in routine. The lake belongs to the Crown, the golf belongs to the members, and the village gets the station car park and the privilege of the name.
