St Buryan
St Buryan has more standing stones than shops, which tells you roughly everything about the pace of the place. Nineteen granite maidens got turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday, and the village has taken the warning seriously ever since. It sits on a plateau five miles from Penzance with a church tower you can see from the sea, a primary school, a pub, and farmland doing the rest, and the summer brings coachloads of people who came for Land's End and stopped here by accident. If your idea of a hard evening is deciding whether to walk to the churchyard cross or the other one in the square, you will be fine here.
