Porthleven

A harbour that sells its own weather·Cornwall·South West England

Porthleven is a working harbour that got discovered, which is Cornish for "the pasty shop now sells sourdough". The pier takes a beating every winter and the photographs of waves going over the clock tower do more for local property prices than any estate agent ever has. It is the kind of place where people buy a cottage for the storms, then spend three Februarys discovering that storms are noisy, wet, and extremely close to the bedroom window. Beautiful, though, and it knows it.
