Potton

A horse-fair town that traded the horses for hatchbacks·Bedfordshire·East of England

Potton was named for its pot-makers and half burned down by a stack of clover, which is about as much drama as the place has wanted since. The railway took the market's trade, then the railway left as well, so the Georgian square rebuilt after the fire now has a library where the stalls stood and a clock that mostly tells commuters how late they'll be for the drive to Sandy station. Potton still has the square of somewhere important and the timetable of somewhere that isn't, which suits the people who moved here to be left alone between the school run and the commute.
