Pitstone

A Chiltern view, delivered to a cul-de-sac·Buckinghamshire·South East England

Pitstone does its living in Buckinghamshire and its errands in Hertfordshire, nipping over the border to Tring for the doctor and the dentist and coming home to a Buckinghamshire council tax bill. Edward I once came for Christmas and stayed five weeks, and the villagers were legally obliged to feed his whole court, which is still the benchmark for anyone whose in-laws stay well past Boxing Day. These days the Chilterns rise behind the back gardens, and Ivinghoe is so close that the two villages share facilities like a couple who never quite got round to marrying.
