Wing, Buckinghamshire

Older than England, mostly seen through a windscreen·Buckinghamshire·South East England

Wing has an Anglo-Saxon church old enough to make most cathedrals look like new builds, and a Norman castle mound at the top of the High Street whose bailey ended up under houses and a road, which is what eventually happens to any castle once somebody needs the land. The post comes through Leighton Buzzard, the council is Buckinghamshire, and the A418 runs straight down the middle carrying people between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard who treat the village as the bit where they slow down. The locals answered all that traffic by forming a pedal-car racing team, the most English response to living on a main road anyone has managed.
