What are the schools like in Pitstone?

For anyone buying or renting in Pitstone.

Schools are one of the best things about living in Pitstone. More than eight in ten schools across the county are rated good or better. Primary school is a short walk for most children. Secondary school is a car journey. Families who come for the primary tend to find the secondary is where the planning starts.

The area has one mainstream state primary in the local results, and its pupils averaged a score of 107 in Key Stage 2 maths. With just the one school in that figure, a single year group's results set the whole number, so a strong or weak cohort moves it more than it would in a town. Cheddington Combined School and St Michael's Church of England Combined School are among the primaries named nearby. On the Department for Transport's 2019 modelling, the nearest primary is about an 18-minute walk or an eight-minute drive.

Ofsted has graded 80 of Buckinghamshire's 94 inspected settings good or better, which is a strong showing for the county as a whole. Of those, 19 are outstanding, while 11 require improvement and three are inadequate. This is a county-wide count, so it tells a family about the system their child is entering, and nothing about any single classroom near Pitstone.

The nearest secondary is a different journey. The same 2019 modelling puts it about 15 minutes away by car, 27 by public transport and 69 on foot. The Cottesloe School is among the secondaries in the area, and the list nearby also takes in Cedars Upper School and Vandyke Upper School over towards Leighton Buzzard. Places at all of them are allocated under the council's published admissions rules, and living near a school's gates does not on its own get a child through them, so it's worth reading those rules and how far away last year's offers reached for any school on your shortlist. Children who walked to primary in under twenty minutes discover at eleven that "the local secondary" is local the way the motorway services are local.

Schools are one of Pitstone's real strengths, and that holds right through to secondary, provided you plan for the drive.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
