Pagham

Bungalows pretending to be a village·West Sussex·South East England

Pagham is bungalows, harbour birds and one road out. Sometime in the 1950s it decided to be a retirement village and has been quietly doubling down ever since. A wartime concrete pontoon broke free on its way to Normandy and has been sitting on the beach since 1944, the kind of thing most coastal towns would have rebranded into a heritage trail by now, but Pagham can't be bothered. Anyone who Googled 'coastal village within commuting distance', pictured Whitstable, and ended up here is going to be furious.
