What are the schools like in Pagham?

For anyone buying or renting in Pagham.

Pagham sends its children to school somewhere else. No primary or secondary sits inside the village boundary with an Ofsted grade attached to it in the data. Primary-age families look outward to Rose Green, Aldingbourne, Nyewood and a handful of others. Secondary-age families look toward Bognor, Selsey, or further inland. Whatever you pick, the school run involves a car or a bus.

A note on catchments before the names. Listing a school as nearby is not the same as guaranteeing your child will get in. Local authority places get allocated competitively, and the school that looks five minutes away on a map can quietly be full of children who live four minutes away. Two streets apart in the village can produce two different catchment outcomes in any given year. Anyone serious about a particular school should check the most recent admission distance before getting attached to a specific house. The catchment a friend's child had in 2021 is not the catchment your child will face in 2026.

For primary, the names that come up most often for Pagham families are Rose Green Infant School and Rose Green Junior School, sitting on the side of the village nearest the rest of the population. Aldingbourne Primary School, Nyewood Church of England Infant School, Nyewood Church of England Junior School, and Bartons Primary School in Bognor Regis cover most of the rest of the realistic range. Birdham Church of England Primary School, East Wittering Community Primary School, Medmerry Primary School and Sidlesham Primary School are within driving range for families willing to take the harbour road. Saint Mary's Catholic Primary School covers the Catholic-school market. Chichester Free School also runs a primary sector that draws beyond the city itself, including from the Pagham side of the coast.

For secondary, the realistic options are The Regis School in Bognor, The Academy at Selsey, Ormiston Six Villages Academy further inland toward Aldingbourne, and Chichester Free School's secondary sector. None of these is on Pagham's doorstep. Secondary-age children in this village spend a noticeable share of the day getting to and from school, which is the deal with living in a coastal village rather than a town. The village does not get a secondary school of its own because the village is not big enough to need one.

For independent schooling, Westbourne House School sits to the west toward Chichester. Beyond that, the prep and senior school options become a Chichester-and-beyond question rather than a Pagham question.

For schools, Pagham scores about average. Not because the surrounding options are weak, and not because the village itself is short of children. It scores average because the village has nothing inside it, the catchment competition for the best of the surrounding options is real, and the school-run logistics are a coastal-village problem rather than a town problem. The school-conscious buyer who wants a strongly-rated school inside walking distance is in the wrong village. The school-conscious buyer who can drive ten or fifteen minutes has options, but should check this year's catchment distance for their preferred school before deciding which street to buy on.
