Aldwick

Bungalows, blue cedars, and a king who borrowed the suffix·West Sussex·South East England

Aldwick is the genteel western flank that Bognor Regis nicked the Regis from, where King George V spent the winter of 1929 convalescing while the town pocketed the suffix on his way back to London. Queen Mary planted a blue cedar to mark the occasion, which remains roughly the high point of local excitement. It is Frinton-on-Sea with a Sussex accent: bungalows, listed cottages, and the kind of stillness locals call peaceful and visitors call closed.
