Long Ashton

Where Bristol goes to pretend it's countryside·Somerset·South West England

Long Ashton is Bristol with a hedge and a story about being Somerset. It sits just outside the city line, which is the entire point: close enough for the good schools and the dinner-party postcode, far enough to call itself a village and mean it. The proudest local claim is that a man who once owned the manor might have lent his name to America, an achievement that happened four thousand miles away and several centuries ago, which tells you roughly how much has occurred since.
