Backwell
Backwell is where Bristol money goes when it decides the city is a fine place to earn a living and a slightly grubby place to actually live in. It runs on a secondary school good enough that people buy the house for the catchment and worry about the house afterwards, and on a direct train to London for the sort of commuter who treats four hours a day on the rails as a fair swap for a driveway. When the developers came for the fields, the village joined hands around the lake in protest, which tells you precisely how it feels about anything new turning up unannounced. The Domesday clerks called it the well back on the hill; these days it is more of a well-off back garden with a season ticket.
