Filton

Built Concorde, then settled for semis·Gloucestershire·South West England

Filton is where Bristol keeps the people it couldn't fit into Bristol. It once built Concorde and a plane so enormous they flattened a whole village to give it a runway, then discovered the plane was a magnificent waste of everyone's afternoon. Now the big event is the shopping centre up the road, and the interwar semis that agreed, sometime around 1935, to all look identical and never revisit the decision. A town that peaked at supersonic and settled at the ring road, and seems oddly content about it.
