Didcot
Didcot was officially named the most normal town in England, and it has never once tried to argue. For decades its only famous feature was a set of power-station cooling towers that a magazine ranked among the worst eyesores in Britain, and when they came down the town lost the one thing anyone could spot from the train. What's left is a railway junction with a town attached, ringed by science campuses where people build particle accelerators all day and then drive home to a new estate on Great Western Park. The government named it a garden town, which is what you call a place when the honest name wouldn't fit on the sign.
