Chacewater

Cornwall with the mineshafts, not the tourists·Cornwall·South West England

Chacewater spent a century and a half being ripped apart from underneath by men chasing tin, and the reward for all that is a village where the ground beneath your house has more history than the house does. It is the kind of Cornish place that never troubled a postcard: no harbour, no fudge shop, no coach parties, just a church, a pub or two and a lot of people who moved here because everywhere with a sea view had already been bought by someone from Surrey. The people who live here are not pretending it is anything else, which is more than can be said for most of the county.
