Lanner, Cornwall

A mining village that outlived its mines·Cornwall·South West England

Lanner is a village that spent the nineteenth century tearing copper out of the ground and the twenty-first pretending the holes aren't still under the gardens. It straddles the Redruth to Falmouth road in a valley, which means everyone who lives here has watched a great many people drive through on their way to somewhere with a beach. The place that gave the world Aphex Twin also has a silver band rehearsing in a former chapel, and honestly both of those facts make the same point about what happens when you leave west Cornwall to entertain itself. Nobody moves to Lanner by accident, and nobody who does move here is doing it for the view of Carn Marth alone.
