Canning Town

The cranes changed jobs, the marsh stayed put·Greater London·London

Canning Town was thrown up on a marsh for the dock workers by speculators chasing a quick return, and a Victorian writer was already complaining about the builders in 1857. The docks have gone, and the speculators came back with cranes, off-plan brochures and a very keen interest in the view of Canary Wharf. The A13 flyover is the one thing here that has never pretended to be anything else.
