Bude

A surf town with a pension plan·Cornwall·South West England

Bude is what happens when a Cornish town decides surfing is a personality and then doubles down for forty years. The Atlantic hits the beach here with the sort of force that turns a fortnight's holiday into a lifetime lease, and the town has been quietly monetising that conversion since the canal stopped carrying sand. It has a lock gate, a golf course in the middle of town, and more wetsuits per square foot than anywhere with this many bungalows has any business having. The cliffs are made of a rock formation named after the place, which is the geological equivalent of being famous in your own kitchen.
