Camelford

The Camelot that got a main road instead·Cornwall·South West England

Camelford is a town that spent centuries insisting it was Camelot, then got famous in 1988 for the wrong reason entirely, and has never quite decided which story to lead with. It sits in the wet bit of Cornwall where the Atlantic Highway funnels every caravan in the country through a high street built for horses, which is why residents time their errands around the school run and the second week of August. The bypass has been about to happen since roughly the reign of Victoria. What you get instead is Bodmin Moor out the back door, standing stones in most directions, and a place that never learned to perform charm for visitors because the visitors were only ever passing through.
