Boscastle
Boscastle is a village that got so violently famous for being washed away that the flood is now its second-biggest tourist attraction, sitting just behind the museum dedicated to witchcraft. It is a stone harbour wedged into a crack in the north Cornish coast, wound up two river valleys, and everything anyone has ever built here was built with the water in mind, some of it retrospectively. The National Trust owns most of what you can see and the rest is a holiday let with a wood burner and a five-star hygiene rating. John Leland turned up in the sixteenth century and called it a very filthy town, which remains the last genuinely bad review anyone has left.
