Holsworthy

The railway left, the viaducts stayed out of spite·Devon·South West England

Holsworthy is what happens when a town builds its entire identity around a livestock market and then sells the site for houses. The Tuesday market still runs, the roads still fill with people who have driven forty minutes for it, and the town still measures its week by that. Everything here is a long way from everything else, which is either the point or the problem depending on how much you enjoy your own company. People who move here for the quiet and then complain about the quiet are a recognised local subspecies.
