Woodley, Berkshire

Reading's edge, pretending it lives further out·Berkshire·South East England

Woodley is the bit of Reading that would rather you didn't call it Reading, and the envelopes saying Reading anyway are the one grievance the place has managed to keep alive. Post-war semis run in every direction until they bump into Earley, and nobody on either side can point to where one stops and the other starts. A Prime Minister once spent his summers here, and George the Third inspected the cavalry on the heath. Woodley has been politely turning down that sort of excitement ever since.
